PicKept

Compress an image

Shrink a JPG, PNG, or WebP under a size you choose, such as 100 KB for a form. PicKept aims under that size without uploading the image.

How to hit a size limit

  1. Pick a target. 100 KB and 200 KB cover most form uploads. Use Custom KB for a limit the chips do not list.
  2. Drop the images. PNG and WebP are saved as JPG, because that is what makes the file smaller.
  3. Change the target and the photos convert again.

What PicKept will not do

  • A JPG that is already under the target is left as-is. Compressing it again would only make it worse.
  • If the target is so small that the photo would have to become a thumbnail, PicKept stops and keeps a readable picture. The note on that file says it could not reach the target.
  • HEIC photos need HEIC to JPG first. This page then compresses the JPG if the form still wants a smaller file.

Transparent PNG areas become white in the JPG.
